Glossary

Definitions are normative where they define terms used with RFC 2119 keywords in core.md or conformance.md.

Acknowledge The state in which a Listener signals they are attending, before the task is described. An acknowledgement asserts attention only. It is not a claim and carries no commitment to own the task.

Adjudicate The state in which a qualified participant decides the disposition of an agent's output. Adjudication is the point at which output becomes an outcome.

Adjudicator The participant qualified under the active profile to adjudicate a given call type. In regulated domains the Adjudicator is typically the person who carries professional or legal responsibility for the work product.

Augment The optional state in which any participant supplies context to the Owner's prompt after hearing it and before the agent runs. Augmenting does not transfer ownership.

Call Both the first beat of the loop and its first state. As a state, the utterance of a call type followed by a pause.

Call type A word from the active profile's vocabulary naming the kind of task being raised. Call types are profile-specific: a software profile and a clinical profile share the loop but not the vocabulary.

Caller The participant who raises a task. Any participant may be a Caller, including one who is not eligible to own the resulting task.

Claim The state in which one Listener becomes the Owner. A valid claim includes a restatement of the task and identifies the claimant.

Close The fourth beat, comprising RUN, RETURN, and ADJUDICATE.

Co-prompt (1) The third beat, comprising PROMPT and the optional AUGMENT. (2) The general practice of two or more people sharing and discussing prompts for a generative system. Sense (2) predates this Standard; see background.md §5.

Contributor Any participant who supplies context to an Owner's prompt. A role held only during AUGMENT.

Derivation A property of an L3 event indicating whether it was emitted by explicit user action or inferred from a transcript. Inferred events must be marked.

Describe The state in which the Caller states the task, after all Listeners have acknowledged.

Disposition The terminal state assigned to a task: Accepted, Rejected, Parked, or Superseded.

Hold An utterance by a Listener indicating they need a moment before acknowledging. A hold is not an acknowledgement and does not satisfy the acknowledgement requirement.

Listener A participant capable of owning the task under consideration. Listeners are the participants whose acknowledgement the Caller must wait for.

Loop The full sequence from CALL to a terminal state for a single task.

Owner The single participant accountable for a task's agent work from CLAIM until a terminal state. Ownership is exclusive and transfers only by explicit statement and explicit acceptance.

Parked A terminal state indicating progress is blocked by a dependency outside the session. A Parked task must name both the blocker and the party responsible for clearing it.

Preliminary A label that must be applied to any result not yet adjudicated, whenever that result is spoken. Preliminary results must not be presented externally as findings.

Profile A document and data file adapting the Standard to a domain by supplying call types, ownership eligibility, adjudicator qualification, optional additional states, and retention requirements. A profile may tighten the Standard but may never weaken it.

Prompt The state in which the Owner utters the prompt aloud before submitting it. Required at Conformance Level 2 and above.

Restatement The portion of a claim in which the claimant states the task in their own words. The mechanism by which a mishearing is detected before an agent runs.

Return The state in which the Owner reports the agent's result to the room, distinguishing what was produced from what has been verified.

Run The state in which the agent works. The session continues during RUN; participants do not wait.

Session A single synchronous gathering of participants. The unit to which conformance applies.

Superseded A terminal state indicating the task was overtaken by another task or by a decision that made it moot. The superseding task must be identified.

Task One unit of delegated work, from the CALL that raises it to the terminal state that closes it. Roles are held with respect to a task, not to a session.

Terminal state One of Accepted, Rejected, Parked, or Superseded. Every claimed task must reach exactly one.
